Proximity & Smart Card Readers
The Backbone of Contactless Entry
Our proximity readers use the latest in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to provide frictionless, secure access control. The reader constantly emits a low-frequency radio field. When a passive credential (card or fob) enters this field, it is energised via induction and transmits its unique encoded data back to the reader, which then validates the request against the central controller.
Key Technical Specifications
Operating Frequencies: The 13.56 MHz standard enables high-security encrypted data exchange, significantly reducing the risk of credential cloning. Support for 125 kHz (Proximity) for legacy systems can be supplied if needed.
Communication Protocols: Our readers are capable of using OSDP (Open Supervised Device Protocol). Unlike the older Wiegand standard, OSDP provides bi-directional communication and AES-128 encryption between the reader and the controller, alerting you instantly to tampering or reader malfunction.
Mobile Credential Support: Integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and NFC modules allow modern readers to communicate securely with smartphones, transforming a user's mobile device into a high-assurance credential.
Environmental Hardening: Designed for use in the Irish climate, our external readers carry IP65/IP67 ratings for water and dust resistance, alongside high IK ratings (Impact Protection) to withstand vandalism in exposed commercial environments.
Proximity readers with contactless technology are the leading choice for access control, delivering efficient and secure entry management. Ensuring your reader matches your security risk level is critical to defending against credential forgery, hacking attempts, and card cloning.
